  1. My first exposure to “coywolf”—I of all people should have heard that word before. A little research turns up they are hybridizations of dogs, wolves and coyotes and are present in every county of North Carolina. One reportedly killed a school teacher last year three counties over from mine. But frankly as much as I’ve hunted I’ve never seen a wolf or coyote, though I’ve heard their yip-howls beneath (or at) a cold, threadbare moon.
