I’ve read that rhyme was not uncommon in Japanese haiku, though it was never considered a part of the form. I’ve generally avoided rhyme, not sure why—too pat and distracting in such a short form? If I recall, the earliest Victorian translations of haiku were all rhymed. Be that as it may, the haiku above is a nod to Robert Frost. Yesterday’s storm brought us 14 inches of snow as I measured it.
