The Burlington women wear black leggings, just as in Hanover and Dartmouth College. Even my wife put on her black leggings. We went from café to café as though we were born and raised in the city.

But then it’s the unexpected that’s the most memorable.

While writing in the morning, I took two pictures in and out of our favorite spot.

The beauty of the city, in part, is its architecture. Many brick, Victorian buildings with turrets, and then some modern buildings with interesting lines and built with a variety of materials. Reminds me of northern Europe. There are little details too, murals and unexpected porticoes. And then all of the longboarders. It’s the latter who inspired my poem Ulysses in Burlington, Vermont.
