November 12th 2015 | straggling pumpkins

·

greeting
····each other—the straggling pumpkins and
·············the moon

·
·

  • I saw a field with a few remaining pumpkins and it reminded me of a haiku by the Japanese poet Roseki:

·

·

········Without a companion,
abandoned in the fields
········winter moon

·

I couldn’t decide between “straggling pumpkins” and “all the pumpkins”. I chose straggling because I liked how it suggested November more than October, that is: after Halloween.
